Love in the City
Today, Ouro Preto remains a cultural mecca, its artful residents meticulously
fashioning beautiful paintings and handmade sculptures.

13. The local market is a haven for art lovers
Ouro Preto truly is a serene place. It is an old and inviting city, nestled
cozily among the hills. Here you have no need to rush, no urge to go anywhere
else. With a beautiful companion and a sip of wine, it is a perfect place
to simply relax.

14. Three sleepy centuries upon the hills
Through the beauty of this town, I began to understand Brazil a little more. Here at
once we have the landmarks of struggle, with old museums of justice and the sword, yet
also the beauty and fragileness of art, and a tranquility present from centuries of
peace among the hills. The romance of Ouro Preto comes not from money or fashion,
but from the people of Brazil: their past, their ideals, and their hopes for the
future. It is a beauty devoid of any superficialities.

15. The view from the balcony is forever enchanting
I wish I could have spent many more days here, but alas my trip was coming to
an end. As the sun was setting, I took a deep breath and strolled the narrow,
undulating streets one last time.

16. Of tradition and hope, a fitting place, Ouro Preto
I went to the Nossa Senhora do Carmo church, to offer my gratitude and prayer. As I left,
there was a lovely bride, tentative yet hopeful, facing the first day of the rest of her
life. That day was her day to bask in the sun. I was grateful to be there.
